There was so much obedience
A great migration
Tutsi penetration
of an established society
There was so much obedience
and degradation
an ambiance of Rwandan mockery
There was so much obedience
German colonist arrived
natives further divide
Belgians usurp German control
There was so much obedience
Tutsi power survives
at the cost of a Hutu stolen soul
There was so much resentment
a concentration
of humiliation
at the bottom of a cast system
There was so much resentment
and irritation evoking evil rather than wisdom
There was so much resentment
thick tension haze
and angry days
familiarity pushed aside
There was so much resentment
hate blinding ways
to create and restore mass Hutu pride
There was so much fear
the word had spread
of Tutsi dead
all blamed for their president’s demise
There was so much fear
so much panic and dread
watching demons rise in Hutu eyes
There was so much fear
a new migration
Tutsi penetration
seeking protection from the Lord
There was so much fear
a continuation
where extremists raped, slaughtered and gored
There was so much noise
people pleading
and bleeding
praying for miracles to come to aid
There was so much noise
militia men screaming
sudden explosions of grenades
There was so much noise
infants sat crying
parents dead or dying
plunged into latrines by their heads
There was so much noise
the future depriving
smashed child skulls together
until dead
There was so much pain
over whelming
other realming
not yet able to live, merely survive
There was so much pain
faces haunted and telling
struggling hard to stay alive
There was so much pain
help implored but ignored
as the world stood by
quietly watching from the side
There was so much pain
strain to patch and restore
broken promises to stop
future genocide.
