Biography of DAWNdada
“Music guides me” are the words Dawn Marie Teufel BKA DAWNdada uses to describe her love and passion for the art form. Born in New York, the state where Hip-Hop originated in 1980, DAWNdada grew up on what is now referred to as an “old skool vibe”. Her love for music began early in her life. Her family still teases her about how she was always singing & dancing around the house making up her own word to songs, which now 20 years later, she still does. Music has always been her salvation, her guidance through life’s ups & downs, and the reason she smiles. She still turns to music for answers today; Alicia Keyes recently healed her heart, Eminem makes her feel a little crazy, Common makes sense, Pitbull amps her up, DJ Laz makes her move her butt, and Michael Jackson fills her soul and puts that smile we all love on her face.
At a young age, she took every style of dance and attempted every musical instrument known to man. Although she hates to admit out loud, DAWNdada, despite her continuous attempts, found out she could not sing, that she was not the best dancer and was average when it came to instrumental talent. However, she was enchanted with music and was sure it was supposed to be an integral part of her life. As the years progressed, she came to realize that her calling in the industry was not in the talent department at all...
At the age of 10 her neighbor and family friend Mike Turchiano, BKA “Uncle Mike”, introduced her to Hip-Hop with the classic “Bust a Move” by Young MC. “It was love and first sound”, DAWNdada says. From then on she knew her love & passion for music was real and especially centered on the genre “Hip-Hop”.
At the age of 16, DAWNdada relocated from NY to South Florida. Musically it was a culture shock. “The first thing I asked my neighbor was; Yo what station is your Hot 97, down here?” DAWNdada says. Her neighbor put her on to Power 96 & 99Jamz. Having the music helped make her transition easier. As time passed, her dreams to be in the music world faded and she went into the field of Massage Therapy. However, in her heart she still loved music.
August 2, 2005 DAWNdada went to see her favorite artist “Eminem”. At the show she ran into, the Pimp with the Limp himself, DJ Laz. DJ Laz showed her a lot of love at the show, so in return she sent him a Thank You card with a massage gift certificate (from her) and from there on, it was history. DJ Laz hired DAWNdada as his personal massage therapist and she went on to become good friends with his wife, Joey and the rest of the family. The relationship with DJ Laz also resulted in DAWNdada meeting a lot of important people in the industry through Power 96 events and DJ Laz’s personal family gatherings.
In 2006, great friends of DAWNdada’s, Ata Gonzalez & Berto Torres formed the label “The G Inc”. Being the outgoing, high energy person DAWNdada is, Torres and Gonzalez approached her to help promote their new label. She linked up “The G Inc” with some key people. Soon after, she was officially doing Public Relations for the label. Many industry people started recognizing her, especially DJs, considering she was in there booths pushing “The G Inc’s” music so hard. Seeing DAWNdada’s passion and work ethic, DJs started approaching her to promote them as well. It was at that moment that DAWNdada started to feel her dream come back to life. She found her calling: Public Relations. She enjoys forming relationships between Artists and DJs. “I get more joy out of hearing one of my artists songs on the radio then they do” says DAWNdada.
Soon after, DAWNdada had opportunities to be involved in many different aspects and various scenes of the industry. Nine5Four Magazine is one that she prides herself on. She is the “Director of Talent & Advertising Acquisitions” and is smitten by the title. With the help of D. Francis from Nine5Four Magazine and Gina Diaz of Glam Squad Miami, DAWNdada decided to leap into her next project. She has created a website of her own www.DAWNdada.com, focused on Promotions & Entertainment. DAWNdada feels overwhelmingly blessed to have such a strong, loyal team on her side and is anxiously anticipating the release of her site. Until then she wants to share the motto of her family at “The G Inc”: Live, Love & Entertain!!!
